Pino Trail - Sandia Mountains-Albuquerque, New Mexico

Panorama of Sandia from the south (click on any picture to enlarge)
Albuquerque is in love with outdoor activities; the city has spent a lot of time and energy in developing "open spaces" devoting 29,000 acres as preservation areas for people to hike/bike/ ride horses/ or simply to picnic at.  Today, we took a hike located in Elena Gallegos Open Space, the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. We choose the Pino Canyon trail.  This trail is an 11 mile trail; however, we were not that industrious; we hiked two miles in and two miles out.
This is memorial garden for a man that was a strong advocate of the open spaces, Phillip Tollefsrund ; he believed "this was the most beautiful backdrop a city ever had".  We must agree that it is one of the prettiest!
Going up the trail; you can see the downtown fairly well today.
What a nice day!
What a pretty view

some shade is welcomed after being in the summer sun :)
