Searching for a Great CFS

It used to not be such a quest to find a good Chicken Fried Steak in Texas.  To make one the only ingredients you need are flour, steak, an egg, buttermilk and salt and pepper. However, times have changed and there are plenty of CFS inposters out there.

We drove through the country north of Fredericksburg on a rainy day to a restaurant sitting way out by itself on a hilltop.

The roof says Hilltop

The owner used to play for Asleep at the Wheel and he has lots of memorabilia inside the cafe.

A funky decor.

Live music starts at 6:30 pm on weekends (not Sunday)
Pondering the rain

They are known for Cajun food but my CFS was akin to an 8 oz sirloin instead of round steak. It came with a cajun okra/tomato dish, potatoes, and grilled veggies. It was all yummy.

Someone else at my table opted for a potato-jalapeno soup
