Heart Awareness Week- It's My Heart- Team Colin

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a complex and rare heart condition which is fatal if undiagnosed. HLHS comprises 4-8% of all congenital heart defects. It occurs in up to four out of every 10,000 live births.

During all prenatal screenings, nothing gave a clue that anything was wrong with Colin's heart.  Luckily, his delivery doctor noticed something was not quite right and was transferred to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston..  Most HLHS babies appear quite normal their first few days of life.  Ten days after Colin was born, he underwent his first of three open heart surgeries.
Colin after his first open heart surgery. What a miracle!
At two, one of Colin's favorite things to do is go to the beach. His second heart surgery went well, though taxing to all those that love him, he pulled through giving us many days at the beach.

Colin's third birthday will be approaching in April.  He is under constant checkups to see when he will  need his final open heart surgery.  He is a joy, a treasure, and a blessing.  His every breath is related to all the research and the hard work of people who have made it their lives to raise awareness of CHD.   This is why every February our family recognizes heart awareness month and join in fundraising efforts...see our link below...

Nuevo Progreso

Four miles south of us is the bridge going into Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. I'm having three crowns and a bridge so I'm heading to my dentist. Jeanette wanted her teeth cleaned and some gold and zircon studded bling put on her two front teeth that says J B. The dentist says he could throw in some little flashing lights for free so she is happy.
South of the border where you can find 900 dentists and 90 pharmacies in the first three blocks.

Aztec legend says a few millennium ago, some one of importance saw an eagle eating a snake (present day Mexico City) and decided to build the capital there. This is still the emblem of Mexico. I guess the moral is "If you are going to build a capital where there are poisonous snakes, pick a spot where the birds can help keep their numbers down.

Move along folks, there is nothing to see here.

Don't wear flip flops. It might rain.

OK, they are somewhat different than our pharmacies as they sell different things written in a foreign language. However, it is not foreign to them.

Too bad my mouth is so numb from the novacaine.
